This is the worst news I’ve ever reported in a blog post.

Peter Rasmussen, director of “Rendevous”, “Killer Robot” and “Stolen Life”, has died.

I held Peter in great regard both as a friend, a colleague and an extraordinarily talented filmmaker. Everyone involved in Machinima is lessened by this loss.

I worked with Peter many years ago when he co-wrote the feature film In The Winter Dark with James Bogle. He was wonderful to work with then and its been amazing to see how he moved his extraordinary talents to his recent work. He was a great film maker and he will be sadly missed. I wish I had made the effort to tell him how much he was respected.

I only spoke to him a few times during the monthly skype chats. He always struck me as being an interesting guy and I regret not getting to know him better.

It is a sad day indeed.

This is indeed both shocking and somber news. I have always been inspired by his work, specifically in legitimizing the craft with professionalism not normally seen in Machinima productions.

God, I don’t think I’ve spoken to him since I stopped working with Machinima .com. But, I still fondly remember him being a great guy to work with just from the little contact I had with him during the launch of “Rendevous”.

The community is deffinately a lot poorer for his passing.

I’ve been astonished at the number of people who were collaborating with Pete in one way or another, myself included. I’ve spoken to several people so far who’s reaction to the news of his death has been “But I was only speaking to him last week! We were planning to do …”

I think it’s fair to say that, if you got the chance to work with Peter, you didn’t turn the opportunity down.
